You can use poster board and some markers. It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy. Just make sure it's big enough to see. Make sure the message is terse enough to read quickly.
Below are examples of some messages that can get your creative juices flowing. I'm not suggesting you use one of these. It's better for the message to be yours, but here are some ideas to get you started.

- Revolution! Nuff said
- Is this what you voted for?
- Government is Broken
- FAIR TAX
- RIP America
- We don't want pork, We Want Liberty
- Special Interest Get the Pork, We Get the Beans.
- No Public Money for Private Failure
